Common issues

The app cannot open a file

Check the following:

  • Does the file exist at the expected location?
  • Do you have permission to read it?
  • Is it a supported text or Markdown file?
  • Did you select it through the app UI (File → Open)?

The app cannot save a file

Check the following:

  • Is the destination folder writable?
  • Is the file locked or read-only?
  • Try Save As with a different name or location.

Markdown preview looks different from another app

Markdown rendering can vary between applications. Hazakura Editor focuses on local editing, previewing, ebook mode, and export — not on matching a specific renderer's output.

Export (EPUB / PDF / HTML)

Use the explicit export action to write your manuscript to EPUB, PDF, or HTML. Export writes files to a location you choose; the original Markdown source stays on your Mac and is not uploaded.

Hazakura Local Assist

Local Assist (preview) runs on-device on supported Macs and suggests edits such as proofreading, summarizing, translating, shortening, or continuing text. Suggestions are never auto-saved or auto-applied — review them as a diff and accept or discard each one. Local Assist does not send text to external services and has no network fallback. If suggestions do not appear, check that your Mac and macOS version support Apple Foundation Models and that the relevant system settings are enabled.

Backups

If auto-backup is enabled, backup snapshots are written under .hazakura/backups/... inside the selected workspace. Backup files remain local and are never uploaded.

App Store version

The App Store version of Hazakura Editor does not include:

  • External AI calls (Local Assist runs on-device only)
  • Command execution features
  • Analytics
  • Telemetry
  • Third-party crash reporting
  • Cloud sync
  • External CLI or agent features

It is a local editor that works with files you choose. Your documents stay on your Mac.
